The public release of iOS 11 for iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and Apple TV. While it may be tempting to just hit the update button there are a couple of things you should do before updating, we’ll cover those in this article.
Before you update, you’ll want to make sure your Apple device is backed up.
Go into Settings and select the Bar at the top of the screen displaying your Apple ID. 
For older iOS versions, there’s a slightly different process to navigate through the iCloud Settings. For those steps, go here.
Select iCloud. 
Your device will display how much storage is being used and the apps that are syncing data to the cloud. Ensure that your preferred apps are syncing by having them toggled on. 
Scroll down and select iCloud Backup. 
Make sure to plug in your Apple Device and check that the iCloud Backup is turned on. 
Select Back Up Now. Your Apple device will run through the backup process which may take a long time, depending on how much data is being backed up, if you’ve done this before, and the speed of your internet connection. 
After the backup is finished, go back to Settings and select General.
Select About. On this screen, you can see the available storage space on the device. You will need approximately 3 to 4 gigabytes free to run the update. 
Go back to the General tab and select Software Update. 
Select Download and Install. 
You will be asked for your device’s passcode. 
Press Agree. 
The download process will begin. 
When the device is completing installation, it will restart. You will be prompted to press the Home Button to finish setting up iOS 11. Press Continue.
After you login with your Apple ID, it will automatically begin the syncing process to restore your files, applications, and settings for whatever you had selected in the iCloud menu. 
Based on your own preferences, decide whether or not you want share your phone’s information with Apple Analytics and App Analytics which are used for development purposes to make their products and software better.
As you’re navigating through the new iOS, take note of the changes. 
You can see that the font system is different. Explore the new interface and find where things are. It’s a good idea to set another backup at this point.
