Instead of just tapping on a notification to open the app, did you know that you can do a couple of swipes and actually customize the notifications? In this video, I’ll show you how to customize the notifications that show up on your Galaxy S9.
Let’s take a look at the notification system on your Galaxy S9 and S9+. So swiping down from the top of the screen, we’re going to enter our notifications. Now, what’s great is that Android 8.0, which comes installed on your Galaxy S9 and S9+ categorizes all of your notifications based upon application. So, if you have multiple notifications from a specific app, it’s actually going to group those notifications together so you can more easily see them. Now, what’s also nice is that with notifications you actually have quick actions on certain ones so for this smart capture, which is a screenshot that I took earlier, I can swipe down and I see a little preview of the screenshot, I can even delete it, edit the screenshot and then share it all right here from within my side of my notification.
What’s also cool is you’ll notice I was listening to music earlier, and I can swipe down and I can actually like it, dislike it, skip to next track, play it, pause it. I even see some nice artwork and this artwork up here will change dynamically based upon what’s playing so the actual color of the text in the background will change based upon the artwork of the album that you’re currently listening to. And this will work with any music service that’s on your Galaxy S9 or S9+. This one just happens to be Google Play Music.
What’s also cool is I can actually swipe over on left or right of a notification and I can dismiss it or what I can also do is actually go into my notification and settings for that actual specific notification so, if I tap on the bell icon I can actually dismiss or snooze this notification for a certain amount of time, so 15 minutes, 30 minutes, one hour or two hours. What’s great is once that snooze timer is up, it’s just going to pop a notification back up on my device notifying me again so that way I can take action at that time when I feel like I’m going to have more time to actually act on it.
And what’s also cool is if I swipe over again and tap on the settings, I can actually dismiss notifications from this app altogether. If I don’t want Google Play Music giving me notifications, just come in here and turn that off. If I actually wanted to customize what’s shown, I can keep it on but notice that I can actually choose categories and I can even have some settings in the app, even dismiss app icon badges as well. So, that’s cool that you can quickly jump into an app’s notifications per app directly from your notification panel. So, if you find that one app is giving you more notifications than you like, all you have to do is come in here, swipe over to the left or the right, tap on that settings icon and just turn the notifications off for that specific application.
