Smart Lock has to be one of the most underrated features of any Android device. With Smart Lock, you can have your Galaxy S9 automatically stay unlocked based on its location, device connection, voice match, and body detection. In this video, I’ll show you how to set up the smart lock on your Galaxy S9/S9+.
Let’s take a look at how to use Smart Lock available for your Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus. So, what we’re going to do is swipe down from the top of the screen, tap on our Settings gear, and then we’re going to go into Lock screen and Security down at the bottom of the screen.
From here, what we’re going to do is enter into Smart Lock. Now, you can see here it gives a description, saying “Smart Lock will keep our phone unlocked when it’s in a trusted location or it detects a trusted nearby device.”
So, tap in there. If you have a password set up, you’re going to go and enter it. So, I have a pattern. I’m going to draw in my pattern. Enter the Settings. And now I have four different options. I can choose On Body Detection, Trusted Places, Trusted Devices and even Voice Match.
So, this is really helpful. Say that you have a Bluetooth speaker connected at home. You have one at work. You can have your phone automatically stay unlocked based on connecting to that device. So, I typically use this in my car. I have Bluetooth stereo in my car, so I connect my phone to the Bluetooth stereo, and then my phone remains unlocked whenever I’m in the car. And then I can even have it set up a trust the place, which is my location for home or work. And that way my phone will stay unlocked when I’m in that location.
What you’re doing this for is basically because you’re going to have your phone on you when you’re in that location, so you can set it up to keep your phone unlocked at that specific spot. So, all you have to do is select which one you want to choose, either on body, trusted places, trusted devices or voice match. Tap on there and then enter into the Settings.
So, you see, for a trusted Bluetooth connection device, we can see our car’s Bluetooth system, a Bluetooth watch or even say a Bluetooth speaker in our house, like a soundbar or a sound system for your television. And when we have Trusted Places, we can add a trusted place, such as our home address or even any other address that we wanted to choose, say our parent’s house, our work location, our significant other’s location, whatever we wanted to choose.
On Body Detection will detect when our phone is actually on us. This will unlock once on our device. It stays unlocked as currently we are in motion or carrying the device. So, that is your kind of taking it out for a job or a run or you constantly have the phone in your hand, this is a great option.
And there is Voice Match. Voice Match will allow us to use our Google keyword and also unlock with a voice match, as well. We can retrain our voice model, delete our voice model, and, even if we have not added a voice model, we’ll be able to add one here and do that. So, that’s a great option for keeping your Galaxy S9 unlocked based upon its location, based upon your body detection, your Bluetooth connection or even a voice match.
